Foliar Nematode of Strawberry
Aphelenchoides fragariae
mediumStrawberrynematode
A nematode that moves in water films on foliage rather than through soil, damaging leaves directly.
Symptoms
Angular, water-soaked lesions on leaves that later turn brown, bounded by leaf veins, sometimes mistaken for a leaf spot disease.
Favorable conditions
- •Wet foliage allowing nematodes to swim between leaves
- •Overhead irrigation and dense, humid plantings
Management
- 1Avoid overhead irrigation
- 2Remove and destroy infected leaves and plant debris
- 3Use certified nematode-free planting stock
