Small underside leaf lesions early in the season; infection starting at the fruit calyx tip and spreading into the fruit as a rot, often complicated by gray mold.
Favorable conditions
•Trash and residue from previous strawberry crops left in the soil
•Planting material can carry the fungus systemically at low levels
Management
1Remove and destroy old strawberry residue between crops
2The standard captan/thiram and strobilurin fungicide rotation used for other fruit rots also suppresses this disease
