Symptoms
A dry, gray, cigar-ash-like rot develops at the flower end of individual fingers, spreading from retained dead flower parts.
Favorable conditions
- •Humid conditions after bunch emergence
- •Retained dead flower parts left on developing fingers
Management
- 1Remove dead floral remnants promptly after bunch emergence
- 2Apply fungicide sprays where the disease is a recurring problem
- 3Improve bunch airflow through proper spacing
