Botrytis cinerea
The most damaging strawberry fruit disease worldwide, causing gray, fuzzy fruit rot, especially in cool, wet seasons — losses can exceed 50%.
Blighted brown flowers; light brown, firm, sunken lesions starting at the fruit stem end that enlarge and become covered in gray-brown spore masses; affected fruit can become dry, mummified.
Trichoderma harzianum, T. hamatum, T. atroviride, and T. longibrachiatum strains have shown control comparable to the fungicide fenhexamid in trials.
Captan or thiram as a season-long base, with Captevate, Elevate, Pristine, Scala, or Switch added during the main bloom period.
Full sun, good drainage/airflow, straw mulch, frequent harvest with removal of cull fruit, and prompt refrigeration after picking.
