A direct sun-exposure injury on fruit that has lost protective canopy cover.
Symptoms
A bleached, bronzed, or necrotic patch develops on the sun-exposed side of the fruit.
Favorable conditions
- •Direct, intense sun exposure, especially after canopy thinning
- •Hot, high-light growing conditions
Management
- 1Maintain adequate canopy cover over fruit
- 2Use reflective or shade materials in hot climates
- 3Avoid over-thinning exposed fruit
