Reduced vigor and runner production, wilting or discoloring leaves, and roots showing dark lesions, missing feeder roots, or fully blackened dead tips when dug up and examined.
Favorable conditions
•Wet, poorly drained soils
•Salt stress, pH imbalance, and winter injury that predispose roots to attack
•Often a complex with Fusarium, Pythium, and nematodes
Management
1Plant only healthy, white-rooted stock
2Choose well-drained soil
3Maintain plant vigor with adequate fertilization and irrigation
4Consider pre-plant fumigation for commercial fields with a history of the disease
