Banana Streak Virus
Badnavirus sp.
mediumBananaviral
A mealybug-transmitted virus (sometimes latent in the plant genome) causing necrotic vein streaking.
Symptoms
Yellow streaking along leaf veins that turns necrotic over time, with stunting and reduced bunch size in severe cases.
Favorable conditions
- •Mealybug vector activity
- •Stress that can activate endogenous, genome-integrated virus sequences in some cultivars
Management
- 1Use certified, virus-tested tissue-culture plants
- 2Control mealybug vectors
- 3Avoid unnecessary plant stress in susceptible cultivars
