Small, round, dark-purple leaf spots with tan-to-white centers; superficial black spots surrounding groups of seeds on ripe fruit ("black seed"), which is mainly a cosmetic problem rather than a rot.
Favorable conditions
•Leaf wetness of 12-96 hours at 15-20°C
•Young leaves are most susceptible
•Overwinters on old infected leaves and debris
Management
1Rotate captan, folpet, dodine, or copper fungicides
2Time sprays to protect new young growth until it matures past the susceptible stage (the "umbrella" strategy)
3Scout leaves before deciding whether treatment is warranted
