Symptoms
Gummy bark lesions at the base of the trunk (gummosis), decayed roots, and canopy thinning or dieback in advanced cases.
Favorable conditions
- •Wet soil around the trunk base
- •Bud union or graft line planted below or too close to soil/mulch
- •Susceptible rootstock
Management
- 1Plant on resistant rootstock
- 2Keep the bud union well above soil and mulch
- 3Avoid irrigation that wets the trunk
- 4Apply fosetyl-Al or metalaxyl as a soil or trunk treatment
