Crassula ovata
A woody-stemmed succulent with plump, round leaves. Slow-growing and long-lived, sometimes passed down as a family heirloom.

Shriveled, wrinkled leaves mean the plant needs water; plump leaves that are soft and discolored mean it's had too much. Leggy, sparse growth reaching toward a window means the plant needs more direct light to stay compact.
A single leaf or a stem cutting will root readily — let the cut end dry and callus for a day or two, then set it on top of (or just into) dry succulent soil and mist lightly until roots form.
Jade plants are slow growers and can go 2-4 years between repots; a heavier, wider pot also helps prevent the plant from becoming top-heavy as it matures.
